Yeah… about that…
Not great. Things are not better. I am sans purpose right now, and my only thing I have going for me is I have started field work. But I can’t complain.
Dot (Lulu’s sister), who some of you know, died in an asphyxiation accident last week. She was only 2, and she will be missed. Andrew (Aly’s brother) has infamous luck, and this is the latest blow to him. Thankfully, he is persevering.
My plan for this past weekend was to go out and do something, since previously I had gone to one movie and that’s it since you know when. I wanted to visit Andrew and my lil’ googie. The events that went down before made the visit even more important. I have gotten only praise from Aly’s siblings who have all said that I am a friend and family regardless. That certainly makes me happy. On this trip, I also got to see Liz, Aly’s sister, and her man Kyle. Liz and I had some great, deep conversations which were very helpful. I basically did not let Lulu leave my side, because I love her so and I miss her, and every moment is precious.
One of the fun things we did was play an old family game of mine: log joust. You take two stumps, and you play hand-to-hand combat like on American Gladiators. This is a simple, but immensely fun game. Strength is not you greatest asset; balance, reach, and counter-strategy are king. The one modification to the game was the playing of it indoors. That’s the power of Alcohol for you.
As you can see, Lulu certainly was interested.
At work last week, we started our check up of last year’s wells, among other things. The most interesting thing we did was bail water out of a old oil well. The water level was 200′, and it was muddy and nasty. I don’t recommend it, though the area is great.
Tomorrow, it’s back to the field, this time with the USGS. Next week, I go to St. George for a conference, and LA for fun, then by the 24th, we should be back into a drilling schedule. There was I time when I was ready to quit this job because I was spending too much time at home. Now I say, bring it on.

I’m sorry to hear about Dot.
An asphyxiation “accident”? What happened?
I hope you’re planning on bringing those Carter Family CDs over!

Well, I don’t know the whole sad story, but she got into a bag and couldn’t get out when no one was home.
poor doggy…
at least you were bailing the water in a pretty place and not a gas station…bleh…
let’s see who’s the log joust champ in a couple of weeks …
Sorry to hear about the accident.
Also, I totally know what you need to do to take your mind off of things. You need to go to one of those windtunnel/flight places, suit up, and ride the airwaves like a jumper, only without the scary jumping part. I think this would exhilerate you for days. Days!
Oh my goodness, that’s just awful. That’s a frightening accident to hear about, especially since I can imagine it’s a scenario that could happen to any pet rather easily.
P.S. I just re-read my first comment and saw I accidentally used quotes in the wrong place. It wasn’t supposed to be “accident” which has a horrible connotation, as if it was intentional…Eeks, sorry!
