Yell and Bend
Another boring day. When you are unemployed, weekend are kinda irrelevant, and in some ways, are worse. The shows you wanna watch are not on, no mail comes (a clear highlight of my day), the only benefit is seeing my sweetie all day.
That is, except this weekend. Shawn is visiting friends in Portland (like we did in November) as is the roommate. So, I got the place all to myself… but not doing much with it. I had fun hanging with Steph and her friends, Garret, and Liz/Kyle and their friends, but today is shaping up to be another lazy one. I write this blog to share with you three neat things (at least to me) that happened recently.
For those of you that have never seen this: prepare yourself. I don’t have many talents, but one of them is doing a traditional Grito Mexicano. You may not know this by name, but it is the yell that people do for celebrations (like Independence Day) or when listening to Mexican songs. 4th year of UCLA, my roommates Fernando, Felipe, and Leo taught me how to do this. I recorded it to put it on Wikipedia because there was no prior example of it, and also because most of the Gritos on YouTube were of inferior quality, in my humble opinion. The main thing I will say is: The video does it no justice. In person, you may ask for it, but a warning: I can not do it half-way. If you wanna hear it, it’s gonna be loud, so you must take that in consideration before asking.
Our local radio show, which I love, was the latest inspiration for a LEGO creation. That led to a blog and an on-air mention. It was about half way through the 9AM hour on March 4th, if you wanna find it on free podcast. That made me feel special!
Last but certainly not least, my obsession with LEGO and Avatar: The Last Airbender (NOT the blue people) has crossed into dangerous territory. I managed to find these two out-of-print sets on eBay for relatively reasonable prices.
If you have not heard about the show or the blockbuster summer live-action movie, it is a really amazing watching experience. And yes, it’s a kid’s show, but it is still very enjoyable for adults. It takes most of the inspiration for the show from chinese martial arts, Asian culture, and Buddhism. I recommend it!
