    No wonder I’m a geologist.

This is, perhaps, the saddest day in the saddest month of the year. Why? Because my true love, football, is gone. It is bitter sweet because my favorite player ever just got elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

That’s right, Dan the Man will be in Canton. This makes me very happy.

So, here in the SLC, we got our first snow storm in a while. Another few inches are due to fall before it’s over. That’s my car under the snow.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this before, but I recently had a crazy idea. I wanted a Jacob Staff this summer for the field, but I wanted to beable to pack it on a plane (i.e. collapseable). So I got the idea to email several pool cue companies and asking them if they would make a “very” custom cue, a Jacob Staff that would screw apart. Well, J. Pechauer responded and made me one. It’s 1.54 m (59″) long, 1 3/8″ thick in diameter, and screws apart in 3 pieces. It is maple and has the rubber endstops on both sides.

Here it is 3 pieces, all disconbobulated. It was pricey (a C-note), but I’ll be the envy of stratigraphers from Hartford to Back Bay! I decided to color it with all kinds of crazy designs. My questions for you all is: Should I leave it this way or do the traditional black/not black?

And now, from the person who brought you last week’s Stick Death, it’s this week’s
    Stick Death

    In honor of the Superbowl…

  • wow… awesome jacob staff… i remember those WAY back in 111! fun times!

  • got to be old school with it … black/not black is what i’d do … but RAD idea … with the screw-apart-ness …

  • Must be black/not-black. You’ll look cool while in SLC, but when you get to the field and find a black and white squiggley rock that looks exactly like your Jacob’s staff, you’ll be like, “damn”. But who knows? I don’t know anything about regrets. I don’t regret it. I don’t. Right? Oh wait, we’re talking about your Jacob’s staff. Um….yeah, whatever you want to do is cool. That’s pretty nifty that it falls apart. I keep a photo in my planner of Michelle, Tiff and I Jacob’s staffing across the Orocopias. It’s a cool photo. From January 2002, that’s the last time I used one. Yeah, no regrets. Just paint it. Do it.

  • Do not mess with that staff.  It is perfect.  You can always change your mind and be boring but it’s harder to go the other way.

  • Yes… ’tis sad… no more football for months. argh. we had a lot of cheesy dips, choclate fondu and i ate a lot.

that jake staff is freakin’ awesome. the one we use is made by brunton and is collapsable, it telescopes and looks like a walking staff. not as cool as yours though. leave it balck and white.

ALSO… fat boy slim… this is a VERY good CD and reminds me of sed pet.

  • Can you tie-dye it?

  • Paleojabba totally dogged you by pointing out that you’re not the first with a suitcase-able Jacob’s staff.  I also dig that she’s so cool that she knows him by Jake!  ;)

  • Hey, Talia didn’t dog me, because I didn’t want the Brunton one, it’s not what I was looking for. And she liked mine, anyways!

Yeah, my old advisor Marc called it a Jake Staff too, it must be a regional thing…

  • Earth isnt an element? Wtf??? I dare you to call it the Juan Pablo Staff, that’s what i’d call it…and be creative with it…chicks dig creative guys, just dont go overboard with it.

disconbobulated: damn that’s an awesome word.

  • not sure why i call it a jake staff… maybe i am SO lazy that I can’t say the whole two syllable word… Jay-cob….

I like the idea of a Juan Pablo staff… does this have some other meaning that i am not aware of though? remember I AM from oklahoma, the land of the close minded and ignorant.

  • hurray for Dan! *sigh* Did I tell you that I used to have a cardboard stand-up of Mr. Marino that my friends gave me for Christmas one year… And yeah. The ellipses… one of our profs always gives us Supreme Court cases that he edits and he uses ellipses… now I can’t stop using them! And why is it so awkward when you see someone from high school? I guess I felt like “oh right, you know me from BEFORE” but before what? My sudden catapultion (is that even a word?) into the realm coolness? Yes, that certainly must be it.

  • i am glad that i don’t work in the critareous or the crustaceous… i get that one a lot.
but apparently I DO work in the Octavian (got that on a test last year! and they say they studied!!! ha!)
