Eight is Enough
So, I was a starry-eyed senior at UCLA when I bought my first computer by myself. It was the most expensive thing I had ever bought at the time… almost 2 grand for a top of the line computer with, get this…. 60 GB of hard drive space (Wow!!!) and an actual DVD burner! What a fantastic world that was…
Fast-forward 8 years, and my G4 swivel lampshade iMac is really showing it’s age. The disk drive is sketchy, the video card can’t handle most video (online or off), and the hard drive is perpetually near the precipice of filling.
Also, I don’t have cable, and my lack of Daily Show and the like, because I can’t watch it online, is tortuous. So, I either start getting cable or….
Get a brand new iMac! Pretty fancy, eh? 24″ screen, an order of magnitude of hard drive upgrade, a video card that can handle anything, and actually a few hundred dollars cheaper! The hardest part of the purchase was my insistence to walk the 0.5 miles to and from the apple store… I’m still quite sore…
My old iMac has already found a home with Ian. Will my new computer last 8 years? I doubt it, but I am ecstatic to have it now!
So, don’t be sad… think of the good times…

Yeah! I have one of these at work and I love it!
Yay! But I remember the old one … movie night in Matt’s room at UCLA, downloading those neato digital photos from our Glacier trip…
HA, I remember the old one too! Many years later (a month ago), I went ahead and braved ebay and bought one with all the software I needed. My new baby…and first ever mac…a 20″inch iMac with all the goose and gadgets that I could need. I love how fast this baby runs compared to my dell laptop. *pets my iMac*.
Sweet! New computer! How fantastic!
So, adam and family are coming into town. if you would like to go out for tacos, you should make yourself available on sunday. kyle and i are also going to take the kiddies to see UP, if you are interested in that.
i will give you a call!
hopefully i will see you soon!
The first computer I ever bought had two floppy drives and no hard drive. I was really excited because I opted for the green monitor because it was less expensive than the amber, but they gave me the amber by mistake. I still remember playing a baseball video game in amber and black that ran off the 5.25 floppy. I was so good at that game. I had a near perfect game once (Dwight Gooden was pitching), and erred on the last play. That still pains me.

Ha! I have a similar pain in my heart for a mistake in a game…. Madden 95, me vs. my buddy Ryan. We were so evenly matched, neither of us could score. The final was 2-0, after I accidentally moved to far back in my own endzone…. it’s still crushing to this day…
heyy thanks for the comment! && yes I have finally solved the problem of my ex. you ready for this? … i traveled to the other side of the earth (seriously) to go on tour with my choir for two weeks. And I legit had the best time of my life. Being so far away was amazing & totally changed my whole perspective of things. Plus, I was on Guam, which is a tropical island of paradise. Just try to get away for a bit if you can and enjoy yourself. And when you realize you are finally happy WITHOUT them, the feeling is unlike any other.
You’ll be fine =] just hang in there!
Yeah, I love writing music, it really helps the thoughts come out, and it will ||Hopefully|| nap me a nice chunk of money here and there when we perform.
So you play bass? Very nice. I’ve been wanting to try to learn how to play bass for a while, but I unfortunately haven’t had the time to find lessons or get a bass guitar, since my Pearl drum set cost me most of my savings.

Yeah, fat stubby fingers like mine work well for bass. Bass is a nice medium between the rhythm of drumming and the techical skill and melody of guitar. If you can play guitar AND drums, bass should be easy.
A real-life geologist? Wow. I teach Geography, but that’s only tangentially related. But you’re definitely right, geology is the one branch of science that does the most damage to creationist young-earth theories, although they still have rationalizations.
I scanned through the gorgeous photoblog on the National Parks Tour, et. al. because the geeky part of me was attracted to the idea of buying a new computer. I hear these stories of people holding on for six, seven, eight years and I’m just amazed. I don’t think I’ve gone over three. It was a sad day for my finances when Dell gave me a line of credit. Now I plan on getting a new one this fall when Windows 7 comes out (never have been converted to Mac), the only question is, desktop or laptop?
Thanks for visiting my site and your comment.

Personally, I’m a desktop guy. You pay extra for portability, so is it worth it? That’s what an iPhone is for….
